The Summer Olympics will produce some of the greatest moments in sports history. It’ll also give us opportunities to see royals kick back and just be fans in the stands and likely meet up with other fellow royals.
Some of the above photos aren’t from past Olympics but are from sporting events in which royals from different monarchies were able to get together. (Let’s have a repeat of the Netherlands vs. Spain 2010 FIFA World Cup Championship (with any combination of royals), shall we?)
Palace websites for various European monarchies have announced that members of their royal families will be in attendance for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, England.
The Danish royal couple, crown prince couple, and Princess Benedikte will be at the Games from the start and attend the Opening Ceremony. Prince Joachim and Princess Marie will arrive later on in the Games. (Details of the DRF’s Olympic program will be provided later on in the family’s official calendar at the palace website.) The DRF will arrive and reside on their royal yacht for the duration of their stay in London.
The calendar of the Norwegian royal family states that Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit will be present for the Games from July 27th on.
The Swedish royal family’s calendar has Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, and Prince Carl Philip in attendance from July 30th to August 3rd. King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia will attend from August 7th to August 11th.
Prince Willem-Alexander is the only Dutch royal mentioned in the announcement on the royal family’s agenda. The announcement provides the dates of his arrival to the end of the Olympics but it is unclear if the Prince of Oranje will be in London for the whole duration of the Games.
As for the Belgian royals, Prince Philippe and Princess Mathilde will be in London to attend the Games from July 26th to the 31st.

wtf are they all wearing, mary’s outfit is very Jefferson Starship
Hey, Mary’s dress looks like a traditional Vietnamese dress! Same with Queen Margrethe, kinda weird that they are wearing it in Denmark though… - Cece
I think you’re on to something, Cece. Prince Henrik did spend quite a few years of his life in Vietnam. Given that he is founder of the Danish division of the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) and current president, he could have dictated the theme of the event.
